Chef notes

This tomatillo-braised pork shoulder is designed to be as effortless as it is flavorful, made simply in the slow cooker with jarred tomatillo salsa. Turning the pork into sliders on grilled buns is an easy, crowd-friendly way to serve it, especially for game day. The meat is rich enough to stand on its own, requiring no condiments, though a buttered, toasted bun is always a welcome finishing touch. Once the pork is cooked, the sliders can be assembled ahead in batches or made to order as guests arrive.

Technique tip: Toast the inside of the buns in a skillet with a little butter for added flavor and texture.

Swap option: I like to use slider buns, but if you can’t find, you can always use dinner rolls or other bread cut in hand-held size.
