These Elementary Schoolers Spread Kindness All Year Long. Now, Hoda Is Giving Back to Them – With a Huge Surprise

“I feel like you guys are always giving, giving, giving. I think it’s time for someone to spread a little kindness to you,” Hoda told the students.

Hoda Kotb is once again showing some love for kids who are filled with holiday cheer.

Hoda helped give students at P.S. 173 in New York City’s Queens neighborhood presents in recognition of the school’s Kids Care Club.

Hoda spent a day with the group comprised of fourth and fifth graders who are determined to make the community a kinder place by running donation drives, bringing treats to firefighters and spending time with senior citizens.

“They embody empathy,” school principal Danielle Tweedy said in a story that aired Dec. 17 on TODAY. “The kids have inspired our community to be a community where we’re always giving.”

The club takes one big field trip each year, so Hoda accompanied the kids this year when they went to New York City’s Rockefeller Center. There, they cheered on ice skaters and surprised shoppers outside of FAO Schwarz toy store with candy canes adorned with positive messages.

“We want them to feel welcome, and their heart could be warm,” a student named Alyssa said.

The club kept the good vibes going by singing “Jingle Bells” for a crowd that sang along with them.

The students say being kind is vital.

“It’s important because once we spread kindness, other people see it, and it makes them want to spread kindness to other people, too,” a student named Queenie said.

The children also said they felt good inspiring others during their trip.

“It gives me positivity,” a student named Leora said.

“It makes a person’s day. If they’re having a bad day, their day turns good when you spread kindness,” another named Zara said.

“And you’re really showing people that you care, no matter what,” Alyssa said.

Hoda then teased what was in store before she took the bus back to school with the club.

“I feel like you guys are always giving, giving, giving. I think it’s time for someone to spread a little kindness to you,” she said while promising a surprise for them.

The club and Hoda went back to the school’s auditorium where a group of students were waiting, under the impression they were there for a Kids Care Club assembly.

Hoda spoke to all of the kids about the good work the club does and how they deserve to be recognized for their efforts.

“How they spread kindness and how you guys spread kindness is amazing. We thought it might be a good idea if we spread a little kindness back to you guys,” she said.

“Macy’s and Toys “R” Us is going to give each student a holiday present,” Hoda said, once again sending the kids into a frenzy.

Hoda then helped handing out gifts to the children, who opened them on the spot.

“Happy holidays!” the kids yelled as they held up their gifts.
